Just over one year ago, a new traffic signal was installed at the intersection of Country Trail and Pinecrest Road. This project made it safer and easier to access destinations by car and on foot.
The traffic signal was installed here because of a pattern of crashes. In five years, there were 13 crashes that a signal could have prevented. Most were angle crashes, also known as “T-bone” crashes. These crashes happened when vehicles on Country Trail pulled out in front of vehicles traveling on Pinecrest Road. There have been no more angle crashes since the traffic signal became operational.
New crosswalks and pedestrian signals were also installed. They will help residents safely cross Country Trail and Pinecrest Road. This will improve access to neighborhoods, parks, and schools. The curb ramps have been rebuilt to be wheelchair accessible. To use the crosswalk, press the button and wait for the “walk” symbol, then cross the street.
This project results from a partnership between the City of Raleigh and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Raleigh's Vision Zero team identified the need for this project. NCDOT funded, designed and built the project. Raleigh's Vision Zero program aims to eliminate deaths on our roadways.
