The goal of this project is to improve mobility and connectivity in Midtown for people walking, biking, and driving.
City Council voted unanimously to adopt the Walkable Midtown Plan in December 2020. The Multimodal Bridge is one of the Seven Big Moves laid out in the plan to connect residents and visitors over the I-440 beltline. The Midtown Area Specific Guidance in the 2030 Comprehensive Plan called for additional study on the alignment of the multimodal bridge.
Staff completed this study and public engagement in the spring of 2023. Subsequently, City Council approved a Comprehensive Plan Amendment (CP-2-23) to revise the street plan in accordance with the preferred alignment recommended in the study. Staff are currently preparing to initiate preliminary design on the bridge. Preliminary design will solidify the bridge alignment in order to identify preliminary easement needs to inform cost estimation.
