Youth

Imagination Station

Youth and Teen Bead Club

The ancient art of yoga combines postures for the body, breathing for relaxation, and meditation for the mind. Kripalu is gentle yoga that encourages students to discover their own degree of flexibility rather than push past their limits. Before undertaking any exercise program, one should consult a physician. Bring a large towel or blanket and wear comfortable clothing. There are six sessions. There is no class on May 26. 

Jewelry

Beginning Metals 

Instructor: Sarah West
Ages: 16+ years

Design and construct earrings, pins, pendants, charms or other small objects and tokens in this basic metalworking class. Students will learn to saw, file, hammer, and solder wire and sheet metals to create individual projects. Students may purchase and bring in their own silver for projects. Optional jewelry kits will be available purchase. The kit will provide each student with solder, saw blades, drill bits, sandpaper, and a small amount of copper to get started on projects. 5 sessions. 

Pottery

Handbuilding: Beginning

Instructor: Tim Cherry 
Ages: 16+ years

This class explores techniques, including pinching, coils, and slabs, and provides an overview of ceramic materials and glazing. Classes provide demonstrations and individual work time with instructor guidance. Students are encouraged to practice between class sessions and will have free access to Sertoma’s well-equipped studio. New students may not miss more than two classes and must attend the first class and the glazing class (approximately 5th week) to qualify for a studio card. Students will purchase materials at the first class. All skill levels are welcome! 7 sessions. No class on May 26.

Painting

Beginning Watercolors with Ryan Fox

Learn the basic techniques of transparent watercolor and find out about the best paper, paint, and brushes to use. Students will create multiple paintings after learning how to do wet-on-wet washes, wet-on-dry washes, and building layers of colors. Students can copy the instructor’s paintings or work on their own subjects. The supply list is available on Sertoma's webpage. There will be six sessions. All Levels. There will be no class on May 26.

Beginning Knitting

Public Art 

Scratch Block Workshop

Instructor: Jim Gallucci
Ages: 8+ years         
Fee: $5 resident / $5 non-resident

Join artist Jim Gallucci for a scratch-block workshop. Participants will carve their own design into a sand mold that will be cast with molten iron during an iron pour event later this year. Jim will incorporate the completed iron blocks into his design for new art that will be part of the Sertoma expansion. Help make art for future public art at Sertoma!  There are also sessions on May 31 and June 16. All materials will be provided.

SRIS Clay Exploration

Unleash your creativity in Clay Exploration, a welcoming and supportive beginner pottery program designed specifically for individuals with disabilities. Whether you’re new to clay or looking to explore a fun, tactile art form, this program offers an inclusive space for self-expression and artistic growth.

Experienced instructors provide step-by-step guidance in hand-building, wheel-throwing, and glazing techniques while allowing participants creative freedom to explore different textures, shapes, and styles at their own pace. Projects include mirror frames, pinch pots, flower bouquets, and coil pots.

Please note SRIS Clay Exploration does not qualify participants for studio membership.
