The function of the Special Operations Division is to provide additional resources to the patrol division to assist them in combating crime and resolving quality of life issues which are impacting the community. These resources can be deployed in a variety of methods to meet the needs of the department and the community.
In addition, the Special Operations Division is responsible for devising comprehensive plans for large-scale police operations, the implementation of these plans and the supervision of the personnel assigned.
Major operational elements of the Special Operations Division include:
- Selective Enforcement Unit;
- Traffic Enforcement Unit;
- Special Projects Unit;
- K-9 Unit;
- Animal Control Unit;
- Police Desk Operations;
- Mounted Unit;
- Taxi Inspections; and,
- Secondary Employment.
