What is I-CARE?
The Raleigh Police Department's Interfaith Community Ambassadors for Responsive Engagement (I-CARE) Team is a volunteer opportunity for faith leaders.
The I-CARE Team is a diverse group of leaders from the faith community who represent a wide range of interests and experiences and have demonstrated a desire to build community relationships and solve problems. Its mission is to create a collaborative partnership through shared strengths to grow relationships, build bridges, foster transparency, and create a mutually enhanced awareness about the function and role of the Raleigh Police Department and the importance of the diverse community it serves.
Duties of the I-CARE Team Members
- Work collaboratively with people of diverse perspectives and experiences
- Build coalitions intended to strengthen the ongoing relationships between the police and the community
- Act in a capacity that promotes trust and cooperation between the police and the community
- Act as a conduit for the Chief of Police regarding community needs and concerns
- Apprise the Chief of Police directly of the community’s needs for police services
- Partner with the Raleigh Police Department to nurture procedural justice
- Assist in educating the faith community at large about the function and services of the Raleigh Police Department
Composition of the I-CARE Team
Members of the I-CARE Team will serve for a period of 12 or 18 months with an option to serve a second term. Applicants will select on their application if they prefer to serve a 12-month or 18-month term. Members will not serve more than two terms. I-CARE Team meetings will be held virtually and/or in various locations throughout the City.
Members must:
- Reside within the city of Raleigh or serve in a leadership capacity at a house of worship located within the city of Raleigh
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be recognized by a credentialing organization within their represented faith group
- Be in good standing within their faith organization
- Maintain a working telephone and email address
- Must be able to commit and actively participate in scheduled meetings and other opportunities for community engagement
- Must be willing to communicate to the greater community towards responsive engagement
