Fire Incident Reports for Q2 2022
The second quarter of 2022 was similar as the quarter before. The two main causes of fire continued to be unattended cooking and improperly discarded smoking materials.
There were 10 fires caused by smoking materials in Q2, compared to 11 fires in Q1. The number of cooking fires per quarter stayed almost the same (46 in Q2 versus 43 in Q1).
“Unattended cooking fires lead to the majority of our structural fire-related responses within the City of Raleigh,” says Captain James Pearce. “In most cases, this is a direct result of human behavior, which can easily be corrected by our residents. In simple terms, if you can’t look, please don’t cook.”
Seven fires were extinguished by a sprinkler system in Q2 of 2022, compared to two fires in the first quarter.
The dollar value of losses due to fire jumped to $4.2 million from $3.5 million during the previous quarter. Also, the number of RFD fire responses increased to 8,189 from 7,517 in Q1.
