ECC Earns Reaccreditation - Again

The ECC met more than 200 professional standards.

Once again, the Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communication Center (ECC) has been recognized for providing exemplary service. The ECC recently achieved national reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The award was for meeting more than 200 professional standards.

The purpose of the program is to improve the delivery of public safety services. The award remains in effect for four years.

ECC Director Dominick Nutter sees the reaccreditation as an example of the continued dedication to the safety and security of the City of Raleigh and Wake County.

“Our area continues to grow quickly, and we need to be prepared to meet the public safety needs of our increasing population,” he says. “In order to receive this certification our team must perform at a high level every day. At the heart of the effort are our call-takers and telecommunicators who provide outstanding service to residents and first responders.”

This is the sixth time the ECC has received CALEA accreditation; the first time was in 2007.

The process of CALEA accreditation includes a self-assessment; an assessment by independent assessors; and feedback from the public and agency personnel. After a public hearing and review of the documentation, a governing body of 21 commissioners makes the decision on whether to accredit or not.
