The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, sponsored by the Raleigh Fire Department (RFD), educates community members about disaster preparedness. It trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
“CERT members are trained volunteers who are committed to building a safe, prepared, and resilient community,” explains Satwana Hurdle, assistant director of emergency management with RFD.
“By completing the Basic CERT training course, volunteers will be better equipped to respond to emergencies in their homes and communities. While we encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to learn and grow, course participants are not obligated to join the team,” Hurdle explains.
