Design

We discussed the most recent design plans with the general public and held individual property owner meetings.

Previous Meeting

There was a public meeting in May 2021. A community survey also was available to provide feedback.  The consultant and staff are now reviewing survey results as they continue to work on the design.

Western North Ridge Stormwater Project – May 25, 2021 Virtual Meeting

Construction

Harps Mill Road between Tanbark Way and Grist Mill Road will be closed for approximately 5 months starting June 2024.

Early 2024

Raleigh Stormwater started construction and stream stabilization downstream of Grist Mill Road. We used a bolder wall that will withstand stream forces generated during large storm events and high flow conditions. In lower flow areas, we reshaped and seeded the stream banks with grass until we do the final plantings. We also replaced the undersized stormwater pipe with larger pipe and box culvert on Grist Mill Road and replaced and/or protected sanitary sewer and water lines. Grist Mill Road will receive final paving and concrete work after Harps Mill Road construction is completed.

June 2024

Starting June 2024, the section of stream below Harps Mill Road received a bolder wall and streambank stabilization. We will create a new section of open channel stream on a property that had recurring flooding issues. Harps Mill Road will have improvements to the stormwater, sanitary sewer, and public water system during the closure.
 

This project has a contract time of 16 months and is projected to be completed by May 2025.

History

This project is located along the western drainage basin to the North Ridge Country Club Lake, which is in the Perry Creek watershed.

 A history of flooding events in the area resulted in public meetings in April and June 2006, which initiated this stormwater project. An engineering study was completed in December 2006, which recommended improvements to the existing storm drainage systems at Tanbark Way, two locations on Harps Mill Road, and the system crossings at Grist Mill Road.

Improvements

Improvements will be made in this area where the stream channel is restricted and where there is severe erosion. The downstream channel also will be repaired to address flooding and stream erosion concerns along this portion of the stream.

The project may also include water quality improvements to meet regulatory requirements and to address water quality concerns within the Perry Creek watershed.
