Phase II of the LGBTQIA+ Historic Context Study begins in July

The LGBTQIA+ Historic Context Phase II kickoff meeting will be held in person on Tuesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. at the Halifax Community Center (1023 Halifax St). This meeting will allow the community to meet the new project consultant, receive project updates, and share stories of where LGBTQIA+ people gathered, met, celebrated, loved, and lived.

In the meantime, take our online survey to see some of the preliminary historic places we've learned about. In the survey you will:

  • Tell us your Top 5 places in each site type to focus on for future research.
  • Rank your preferred ways to recognize the historic places we identify beyond a traditional historic designation.
  • Share ideas about other ways to celebrate these important spaces.

The survey will close on Sunday, August 4 at 11:59 p.m.

Phase II will build on the research and historic places roster developed during Phase I. A final report will be available at the end of 2024. Thanks to those who have followed the progress of Phase I, attended community meetings, and participated in online surveys.
