The City of Raleigh’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department has designated a 1-mile section of the Crabtree Creek Trail — between Kiwanis Park and Atlantic Avenue — as the City’s Greenway Innovation Corridor. This section of the trail is where the City will trial emerging practices and technologies intended to improve trail user experience and safety.
In early April, a glow-in-the-dark centerline stripe was applied to the Innovation Corridor with the intention of testing its effectiveness in improving trail user safety in low-light conditions, primarily within one hour of sunset. The City of Raleigh worked with Arrowline Pavement Markings to apply the centerline stipes. If the product is successful, it will provide trail users with enough additional light in the evening hours to complete their trips on the trail. This will be most beneficial during the winter months when sunsets are at their earliest.
