As Mordecai investigates its own archaeological footprint, the park will host a series of lectures with local experts speaking about their work at historic sites, cemeteries, and more.
In January join us to hear from Jon Marcoux, Director of the Research Labs in Archaeology at UNC-Chapel Hill. Professor Marcoux will share about his time teaching at the Johns Island Preservation Field School on Johns Island, South Carolina. This unique learning experience invited participants to learn from scholars and community educators about preserving historic structures and documenting local history in a section of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor. Those interested in Black cultural heritage and publicly-engaged preservation and archaeology are invited to hear more about this project.
