Spring is the perfect time to deep clean and declutter, but tidying up doesn't mean throwing everything in the garbage! Recycle empty cleaning and bathroom products, and refresh your space by donating clothing and furniture you no longer use. Spring cleaning feels even more refreshing when you reduce the amount of garbage sent to the landfill.
Recycle
- Empty bottles from bathroom products like liquid hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, lotion, and body wash.
- Empty cleaning products like bottles of window cleaner, dish soap, drain cleaner, and laundry detergent jugs.
- Paperboard products like paper towel and toilet paper rolls, over-the-counter medicine boxes, and tissue boxes.
*It's important to make sure your recyclables are clean and empty when you throw them in the blue cart. A quick soak, shake, and rinse will do the trick to remove residue.
Refresh
- Donate clothing and furniture in good condition for someone else to use. Find the closest drop-off organization to you in Raleigh Reuse.
- Take old liquid cleaning products that shouldn't be disposed of down the drain to a Wake County Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
- Post items you no longer use but are still useful on Craigslist, Freecycle, and Buy Nothing Groups.
Reuse
- Cut old t-shirts into rags instead of disposable wipes, and use old socks as dusting mitts.
- Need boxes for moving or storing items? Grocery and ABC stores always have excess cardboard boxes and are happy to share.
- Use old toothbrushes to scrub hard-to-reach places like grout.
