Robin Tatum, Raleigh City Attorney is leaving her post to return to private practice. Tatum marked her tenure with a comprehensive reorganization of the City Attorney’s Office. She directed prompt and thorough responses to the City’s rapidly-changing landscapes and challenges, and she developed strong working relationships with the City Council, the City Manager, and City Staff.
“In life, everything has a season and Robin came to the City of Raleigh at the right time. Robin leaves behind a more diverse and deeper bench of trusted and talented attorneys,” said Mayor Pro Tem Corey Branch.
Tatum has led an office of nineteen lawyers, nine paralegals, and support staff. The City Attorney's office provides support for multiple City departments, the City Council, and its subcommittees. The office also provides support to City boards and commissions that include the Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission.
“Robin has essentially run a law firm within the City that provides all of our stakeholders, public and private, with confidence that all of their interests are valued when the City makes important legal and policy decisions,” said City Manager Marchell Adams-David.
Tatum was the city attorney in Asheville before her tenure with Raleigh and had a lengthy and successful private practice before her government service. She plans to join the Raleigh office of Fox Rothschild LLP to recommence her land use, zoning, and municipal law practice.
“I am returning to law firm practice hoping I will bring a perspective that will help both public and private clients meet their objectives,” Tatum said. She further stated, “I will always cherish my time at the City of Raleigh and the relationships I have formed with the incredible people in this organization.”
Tatum’s last day with the City will be May 1.
