Business Interest in Current Social Districts

For businesses adjacent to the boundaries of a current social district, a Social District Business Interest form has been created to express interest in being a part of the district in the future. Submissions will be reviewed and potential new boundary lines will be brought to City Council for consideration on an annual basis. 

Creation of New Social Districts

Social District Registration form and process have been developed to anticipate future requests of new social districts in other parts of the city. Applicants will be guided on all necessary state and local requirements. When eligible applicants have successfully completed all requirements, social district requests will be presented to City Council for authorization.  

Each applicant will be responsible for providing the following: 

  • Proposed area, boundaries, and map
  • Proposed hours of operation
  • Participating and non-participating locations
  • Signage plan
  • Management and maintenance plan

How to Apply

Step  Description 
1. Review Social District Guide  

Review the  Sip n' Stroll Downtown Guide and FAQ to learn about necessary requirements. Not sure if a social district is feasible in your area or do you have questions? Reach out to us hospitality.programs@raleighnc.gov

2. Gather Required Documents Gather the following documents in order to apply: 
  • Proposed area, boundaries, and map
  • Proposed hours of operation
  • Participating and non-participating locations
  • Signage plan
  • Management and maintenance plan
3. Register and Submit Documents 

Complete the Social District Registration, and submit all documents for approval. NOTE: YOU CANNOT SAVE YOUR PROGRESS ONCE YOU BEGIN

4. City Review & Authorization 

The City will review submissions and reach out with any comments or feedback. When eligible applicants have successfully completed all requirements, staff will present the social district request to City Council for authorization.

ANY ABC PERMITTEE PARTICIPATING IN THE SOCIAL DISTRICT IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO CONSULT WITH THEIR OWN ATTORNEY OR ABC COMMISSION STAFF TO FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES WITH THE STATUTORY AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SOCIAL DISTRICT AND THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES THEY SELL THAT ARE CARRIED INTO THE DISTRICT
