City of Raleigh Names New Human Resources Director

Ms. Jones brings extensive work experience from both the public and private sector. At Umicore, she led and implemented a number of programs and initiatives across the North America region that helped develop the workforce and foster an environment of inclusion and belonging. In her past roles, she has also implemented systems to support efficiencies in HR departments, as well as empower the workforce. 

“I am pleased to announce Sharnell Jones as the City's next HR director," said City Manager Marchell Adams-David. "During my time as an assistant city manager, I worked closely with Ms. Jones on several HR initiatives. I know firsthand that she is an excellent HR professional who will work alongside staff to address daily operational challenges, successfully partner with her peers across all departments, and provide HR with the type of strategic leadership that advances our efforts to build a workforce that provides superior public services to our community."

“I am excited to return to the City of Raleigh as the HR director," said Jones. “I am looking forward to joining the team and serving the employees of the City, the organization, and the community. From my prior experience working at the City, I know the department has the ability to be best-in-class when it comes to supporting the needs of the employees and the organization’s goals and the strategic plan.“

Ms. Jones holds a Master of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the proud mother of two children and enjoys cheering her children on at their sporting events, reading, spending time with family and friends, and of course a good UNC game.

Her first day will be May 22.
